Someplace In The Dark
Juniper Yvette’s consciousness restarts a million years after it was stopped.
The Cogitare, the hyper-intelligent aliens who awoke her, fill Juniper in on what she’s missed. The NASA planetary colonization mission she was on strayed off course, and the waking mechanisms on the hypersleep pods failed. She is the sole survivor of her crew, and moreso, the sole survivor of the human race.
Juniper isn’t convinced. She knows humanity is out there, somewhere, and with the help of the Cogitare (who exercise jurisdiction over the planets), she will find them.
When the Cogitare discover humanoids on a faraway planet, Juniper becomes a determined envoy on a strange world in search of human lineage. There, she meets Vobis. Vobis is headstrong, aloof, and distrustful of Juniper. Yet as they spend time together, Juniper finds herself seeking more than just community, but companionship.
Juniper must navigate the politics of a new world and grief for the one she’s lost. For better or worse, these humanoids mirror humanity; love, jealousy, friendship, even war…But where Juniper sees familiarity, the Cogitare see a threat. The peace they’ve cultivated among the worlds was hard fought, and this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve culled a violent species.
Juniper has already lost one world and isn’t willing to lose another. She must find a way to save Vobis and her people, even if they aren’t people at all…
